Background & Challenge

Network Optix is a software development company that helps you build smart video solutions, fast. In this digital age, where data is ever-expanding, the Network Optix Enterprise Video Operating System (Nx EVOS) allows developers to construct AI-powered video solutions with tools like Nx AI Manager and Nx Toolkit.

With the mission to inspire innovation and real-world applications in public venue management, Nx partnered with HackerEarth to host two global hackathons, inviting developers worldwide to build video solutions that make a real difference.

The idea was simple but powerful: use the Nx AI Manager and Developer Toolkit to create meaningful applications that improve public spaces. It was a chance to show how technology can solve real problems and serve the community.

The Solution

HackerEarth launched the Nx Venue Innovation hackathon in close collaboration with Network Optix. It was a two-phase global competition designed to help developers turn ideas into impactful solutions.

Phase 1: Idea Submission
Participants were encouraged to explore seven themes—from crowd flow monitoring and security alerts to demographics and open-ended innovation. The team at Network Optix provided constant guidance and mentorship to developers in every phase of the event.

Participants were provided with a structured idea submission process, educational resources, and real-time communication channels for support. Ideas were evaluated and selected based on the judging criteria for the second round.

Phase 2: Prototype Phase
In the prototype phase, participants were given access to the full suite of Nx tools, live Real-Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) video streams from real venues, and technical documentation. Participating teams were supported via Slack channels and 1-on-1 mentoring sessions to help them refine and implement their solutions using Nx AI Manager.

The Impact

The Nx Venue Innovation Hackathon served as both a product showcase and a community-building milestone for Network Optix. It not only validated the versatility of Nx's developer tools in diverse venue settings but also planted the seeds for future innovation through external collaborations. For the team at Network Optix, it helped improve the product, brought valuable feedback, and new energy to the Nx developer community.

Through this collaborative event, Network Optix and HackerEarth:

  • Sparked meaningful collaboration with developers worldwide.
  • Strengthened brand visibility in intelligent video solutions.
  • Collected valuable use cases and feedback for future product innovation.

The Result

With over 2,690 registrations, more than 160 idea submissions, and 6 winning teams, both hackathons led to many high-quality AI video solutions. Here are a few notable examples:
  • Parking Slot Detection and Occupancy Monitoring: This smart system uses security cameras to show available parking spots in real time‚ saving time, reducing traffic, and improving convenience.
  • ShopkAIper: Retail stores often struggle with long wait times, security issues, and high staffing costs. ShopkAIper is an AI-powered tool that helps stores run smoothly by improving customer service, boosting security, and reducing the need for extra staff.
  • GARUD: Tracking animals in national parks can be hard and unsafe. GARUD is a smart dashboard that uses geo-spatial data to help tourists, rangers, and researchers safely track and monitor wildlife in real time.
